Every summer, I create a wishlist of books that I dream of leisurely reading as the hot summer days go by slowly. Lately, the only books I have had time to read have been the many cookbooks I have been blogging about on my blog, the cook(book)ing school (
http://cookbookingschool.wordpress.com
). But this summer I’m determined to read some new stuff. And I enjoy the serious stuff too, every once in a while, but especially in the summer, I enjoy some of the light, sometimes silly, not so serious stuff, the frivolous romance novels, or easy to read mystery or a splendid bit of poetry. This summer, I would like to attempt to read as much of that stuff as I can and to read books that I have sitting on my Goodreads “to read” book list. Here are a few of the titles I will put on my summer reading list for 2012:

I don’t know how many people know, but media personality Wendy Williams wrote a series of novels a few years ago. I already read the first book, Drama is Her Middle Name: The Ritz Harper Chronicles. I thought it was pretty good and a very easy read. My goal has always been to read the next two books in the series as well, Is The Bitch Dead? and Ritz Harper goes To Hollywood.

I am also trying to delve deeper into my artistic side and I really admire bell hooks as a writer and sociologist so I really want to read Art On My Mind.
I also have a bunch of books that I own already that I really need to read because they are collecting dust. Here are a few:
The 12 Secrets of Highly Effective Women by Gail McMeekin
The Martha Rules: 10 Essentials for Achieving Success As You Start, Build, or Manage a Business by Martha Stewart
Okay, so I have five books on this list. I think this is manageable. We will see how I do and I will keep you posted. Aside from the hundreds of magazines I will read as quick reads this summer, If I can read all five of these books this summer this will be saying something. I have actually also joined a couple of reading challenges. One is the Good Reads Yearly Reading Challenge, so far I have read 22 of the 30 books I said I would read and you can follow me at www.goodreads.com/ivywriter . I’ve also joined the Written Magazine, #30BooksIn90Days Reading Challenge,

. This one might be more of an actual challenge but I’m up for it. Happy Reading Everyone, Keep Those Kids Reading! And Have a Great Summer!
(P.S. I’m also currently reading The Postcard Killers by James Patterson, my first time reading him. And since the Alex Cross movie is coming out in October, I guess I better get to reading more James Patterson. LOL)
